Jesse Cafarelli15:06:35

hey, not sure if anyone asked this yet or if you guys have a way to do this yet, but I wished there was a way to do sub-organziations with github enterprise, and through the ui it would almost act like folders or containers. so if my company name was jesse, and I had sub orgs of backend, frontend, and operations, I could set it up so it would be something like

and then have settings like anyone in jesse would have read across all orgs except backend, and if they are apart of frontend they would have read/write. things like that. it would make organization of repos when you have upwards of 100 of them a lot easier to parse if they were in buckets

rerwinx15:06:36

Hi @jesse.cafarelli, is this mainly for visibility/finding repos or about controlling access to them?

Jesse Cafarelli15:06:25

I guess a little of both?

Jesse Cafarelli15:06:00

but it would be a big help just from a finding a repo standpoint

rerwinx16:06:02

Couple of options here. There is no option to have "sub-orgs" or "hierarchical repos/repo folders". With Enterprise Cloud you can have multiple Orgs under and Enterprise Account (including Internal repos which are visible to all org members under the enterprise)

rerwinx16:06:15

If all in a single Org, then a combo of Teams and repo https://help.github.com/en/github/administering-a-repository/classifying-your-repository-with-topics should help with visibility and access.
