It's definitely more US-centric, and mainly in the startup space. I worked for a startup quite a few years back, where the CEO would stay in the office quite late (midnight some days), and scold anyone that would leave before him. The mindset that you can get more work done by staying as late as possible simply isn't true, and it's something that non-technical managers need to get a grasp on.
Happy/motivated people work faster and harder, and get more done in a shorter amount of time than someone that is burnt out and forced to stay late hours
This is fact. Even if you are the passionate about the problem and enjoy the work, burnout will happen if you do not allow time for R&R.
