As someone reading “Ward’s wiki” back in the 90s it is funny to hear about agile transformations starting in 2010s. Makes me feel old. :man_with_beard:
To my mind “Where Agile Falls Short” is explained by Cross the Chasm model. Things change when the ideas move from innovators to early adopters to early majority to late majority.
Correct to consider motivations. • Early adopters are motivated by better • Early majority don’t want to be left behind • Late majority want to do what’s standard Of course when the late majority adopt something they will always adopt it with a different motivation than the early adopters.
Applying open source methodologies inside the enterprise was the idea of my start up… in 1999. (Open Avenue) Still a good idea!
For my co-founder and I we thought the big innovation of open source was solving the problem of distributed development.
Timezones are still a problem; open source methodology still the best solution I know.
Ah! John was at VA Linux in 1999. Their announcement of SourceForge preempted our go to market, where our plan was to offer free hosting to open source projects. Made it hard for us to get air time after that. :)
Good example of creating a project to have a consolidated logging solution as part of the dev platform for their Python devs.
I also like the example of modified libraries to address vulnerabilities.
