+++ Incident +++ Unfortunately the power strips on the desks are not working. ——————
A big welcome to Jason Cox, Director, Global SRE, The Walt Disney Company
“Better, Faster, Safer, Happier” - Daft Punk’s new collaboration with Disney
Listen, Empathise and Help, genuinely!!! And have happiness all around.. for you, for your team, and for your consumers..
Again with these Rebels. The propaganda from Disney gives the nice people of Empire a bad name.
I mean, the Empire does seem to have quite a bit of experience running an organization at scale. :man-shrugging:
Yes. And they are engineering big things. Sure, the Change Fail Rate on planetoid battle stations is quite bad but only because of sabotage.
Next up is the team from adidas: Fernando Cornago, Vice President — Digital Tech, and Thomas Gieling, Senior Director Domain Architecture - Digital
I need to have a serious conversation with our marketing department regarding the quality of our videos! :rolling_on_the_floor_laughing:
Fantastic story telling - listen, empathize and help!! Disney truly living up to the high standards of story telling.
adidas: 5 billion euro digital revenue; 360MM members worldwide
5 billion revenue and only 20+ capabilities.. awesome example of prudence and value creation through proper design
Let's welcome, Jennifer Petoff, Director, Google Cloud Platform and Technical Infrastructure Education, Google
Next up: Simon Skelton, Platform & Operations Manager, John Lewis & Partners, and Chris Rutter, Principal Security Consultant, Equal Experts
Very impressed with the governance engineering at John Lewis :star-struck: ✅ - Build cross-cutting common controls ✅ - Bring-your-own control implementation ✅ - Common dashboards and data to share visibility across stakeholders
And now...Gene Kim and Dr. Steven J. Spear S2S: Founder & MIT: Sr. Lecturer, See to Solve; MIT

@l.schneider why do the industry think that 0-audit findings is a good thing? Audits are suppose to keep iterating and improving as well, so the bar should keep raising and helping the teams to grow? Agreed?
0 findings are often aimed for in the regulated industry, since one finding in an audit may cause tremendous effects due to efforts for follow up and corrective actions - ultimately it could possibly postpone a go live of a product. Companies therefore tend to react to a finding with lots of control measures increasing the effort for fulfilling regulatory requirements also in the future
But yes I agree with you. There should also be an invest into psychological safety as a counter measure plus a strong collaboration with Audit on future ways of working and how to deal with audits and findings in future
agree with you on external audits (or once from a regulator) as they drive a specific market position and are linked to a license for "trading" usually - But internal audit should be helping the company to keep improving and driving more efficient and compliant business... 0-finding internal audits are lacking improvement value..
the internala audits drive the possiblity of that psychological safety but allowing people to understand that things happen when they improve/evolve/etc and (if there is a plan or awareness) it good to keep iterating to improve...
We’ve organized open spaces internally. We call them Unconference but the idea is the same.

"UK people love M&S. Working at M&S has been the highlight of my entire career. This product is often shared across our colleagues. We love us, even more than everyone loves us"
Now up: Richard Day, Software Development Manager and Lee Wilson, Staff Software Engineer, Marks & Spencer
Quickly between talks I wanted to share a link to a paper about large language models that’s relevant to all the discussions we’ve been having about AI. It’s a great summary of the current research around LLM capabilities (and full of links to primary sources). https://arxiv.org/abs/2304.00612
Please welcome Sophie Harrison, Director of Agile Product Delivery, University College London (UCL)
Great talk from the M&S team. I may have had to move to the airport, but not missing out on golden nuggets like this!
"Time to hire went from 148 day to 48 day". (Sorry if stats are incorrect.)
Filing for time off — old method would take a half-day, involving VPN, finding the form, which often asked for info they already had.
"Service Desk: please submit your user documentation." "We won't have any user documentation!"
