DOES Scenius regional watch parties? @genek mentioned the possibility of one-day virtual DevOps events throughout the year. I have an idea to help foster the in-person networking and local engagement. One person I spoke with mentioned difficulty in getting org buy-in to attend the annual conference, fostering enthusiasm in between the annual conferences, and his company's reduction of travel allowances. I would love to help host and organize regional watch parties. I think there is some real potential value in this and would love to brainstorm more. Here are the inherit hurdles I see with virtual conferences: • Hard to establish work boundaries and focus on the conference sessions when your phone is ringing and people are coming in the door. • My org tends to dismiss the value of virtual conferences vs conferences that call you out of the office. If you're in the office you're accessible. • Networking is hard to replicate • It's hard to feed off of each other's enthusiasm and truly engage creating free ideation. I have participated in various communities in California that offer regional groups throughout the year, which really helps keep these rich conversations going and develops great relationships outside the conference. I would be happy to host a watch party at my organization for those in driving distance in Southern California. My thought would be to hold it in a large conference room at our location that could accommodate 80-100 people, we could have group activities to help foster networking and collaboration and could find a way to submit Q&A questions, either on camera or in text, to the moderators for live interaction. Ideas? Feedback? Worth doing? Would you attend a local watch party in favor of watching from your desk?

Hi Matt - I had similar ideas a while back here in EMEA : I found it tough to get a little traction to get going. but I feel there are plenty of folk who would simply love to do something like this. it would be fantastic to keep the energy going!

So great meeting you @mpenner two days ago! Cc @jeff.gallimore @mvk842 @alex I wonder if we can do some experiments around "GeneCon" in December. For people who want to host meetups, we could help publicize? I think it would be so rewarding to take part in one, as opposed to just watching on Zoom.

Matt Penner20:10:51

GeneCon would be a perfect event to do this with. 👍:skin-tone-3: 😉

Hi I'm Jesse Robbins. I've been involved with DevOps from the beginning (Founded Chef, Velocity Conf / DevOps OG, etc) and have been honored to support a lot of incredible people and companies along the way. I'm most interested in meeting people who are using AI to improve the lives of devs, ops, eng, etc, and those that are about to. (That's big focus of my work right now). I'm also looking for podcast/video guests for our network & opportunities to support yours. I'm also happy meet with folks on the journey who I can help. I am a full-time VC now with Heavybit, and am happy to talk about startup ideas, existential questions, founder emotional support, what to do in waves hands around in this economy / venture investing climate / frothy AI hypestorm / BS cycle.
