Hi everyone. For those who do or have done mapping of the software delivery process to then identify what to change/optimize, do you think a team can do it themselves or does it really require a strong facilitator?

Strong facilitator at first, but over time they can do it themselves

The value stream mapping process is simple with low cost of entry - but facilitator provides some outside in point of view that is needed at first

Yes, having someone who can detach a bit from the daily work and ask the questions to peel back how things are actually executed is crucial. This may be a member of the team or it may be someone from outside

High Velocity Learning in Army Rapid Equipping: COL Pete Newell (retired) CO of Army Rapid Equipping Force highlights a key shift in thinking and doing: from “things go slow because of the bureaucrats” (the people stink) through “things go slow because of the bureaucracy” (the system stinks) to “the system can be fixed by seeing and solving problems, meaning the people can work to their fuller potential.” Very best, Steve https://warontherocks.com/2020/01/self-sabotage-why-doing-the-right-thing-results-in-failure/
