I plan to 🙂 We still have 11 people on right now.
Early morning activity: snagging the ebooks! https://members.itrevolution.com/free-ebooks
@bryan.finster486: this match your experience? https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=28748077 Another way I’ve expressed it is how the tool you use to get started on implementing a change shifts as you grow more senior (if you’ll forgive an IDE-centric kind of view - this is meant to reflect life in a Big Org - feel free to substitute with appropriate emacs commands) - Junior Dev: File > Open - Dev: File > New - Senior Dev: File > New Project - Lead Dev: File > New Diagram - Principal Dev: File > New Powerpoint Presentation - Staff Dev: File > New Recurring Meeting Request

LOL, Yep this resonates. I’m happiest when I can take a day with file>open instead of wall of meeting. Addition: “write compelling arguments for improvement recommendations supported by evidence to avoid talking to everyone 1 on 1 because it’s exhausting and hurts my introvert.”
To avoiding the wall of meetings, have you found success with blocking off time and logging out of messaging to free yourself up? Are there better ideas? I have tried a few things without much luck.
In my current environment I can’t do that. 1. No shared calendar 2. Too many timezones to cover. So, I start work about 90 minutes before my first meeting and do most work then.
@dacahill7: blocking off time in calendar is one option. Another is a rarely used option: the decline button. It turns out you aren’t required by the laws of physics to accept meeting invites. 🙂
This is true, except for all of the other meetings in my case. 😕
However, if you have nothing to add and nothing to learn, do something useful instead.
I remember Jeffrey talking last year about how he would ask if he can leave if he isn't benefitting. I've left a couple meetings early but didn't bring it up in theh conversation.
Good start! Making it discussable is something I find useful because it can sometimes surface that there is a reason for me to be there, or that other people are expecting something from me that I didn’t realize.
At the first WM Quality Summit, I talked about testing being for value, not compliance to spec. I included meetings as something that required arrange, act, assert. No agenda? Arrange is missing. Don’t attend No documented actions from the meeting? No assertion. Need meeting retro. 😄

I think I saw this was recorded..? Will this be available for later viewing?
I got a copy. Is it possible to download the pdf, Leah? Or only the web viewer? I couldn't find a download link.
Yes, you can read the books offline using the IT Revolution app! (Sorry, we don't allow downloads in order to protect our authors' IP.)
Do you have a preferred place where I can buy & download a DRM free version of the book so I can have it in pdf / eReader format?
You can preorder an ebook edition from your favorite ebook retailer (Kindle, Nook, Kobo, etc.). The book will officially be released on 11/30/21. We do not offer DRM-free editions of our books.
