Is there a link to the Gather site?

Abhinav Bansal - Morgan Stanley07:05:00

Do we need to signup on gather?

I’ll post the link here soon.

Dave Reed (bp Product Manager)09:05:56

any way to mute others in gather so I don't get echo from the main stream?

In Chrome you can right-click and mute a tab

This is one of the coolest things i've ever seen! I love it!

"Hold 'g' to go through people" - That's definitely something important I learned today 😄

That's super helpful! I got stuck going in the door to BOF because a few people were standing in the doorway and you couldn't get around them....just. like a real conference 😱

Andreas Baernthaler - TNG Technology Consulting17:05:51

@kim.weins I feel your pain. I said bye to the people on a birds-of-a-feather table and then coudn't get out 😆.

that feeling when you’re walking the same direction after saying bye

📞 :telephone: RING RING.... This is your final call to join the Synopsys Happy Hour Magic Show!! 🪄 :male_mage: we still have a few Synopsys@Home boxes up for grabs https://synopsys.zoom.us/webinar/register/WN_SJ9mpowbRF2gj6GQRRax2g now and attend! It all kicks-off at 6.25pm BST... what are you waiting for? 🪄

Am I the only one having mixed feelings about this thing? On one hand it’s super cool to try to recreate the real experience of wandering around conference’s exhibition hall… but it feels really creepy when it’s so empty and everyone you pass by is on mute with camera turned off… or on but clearly doing something else and then it fells kind of like peeping through keyholes into others lives  I hope that next DOES will NOT be virtual as I prefer to bump into real humans of flesh and bone. Even if it means standing in a line to the loo or a lift or to grab something to eat. Gosh I really miss those human interactions! 😄

I find that I like the Gather Town experience more than the in-person experience at DOES for meeting people and networking (though that may be a function being naturally more introverted). I found the Birds-of-a-Feather tables to be very good, as well as hanging out at the "bar" in the center of the main room. Outside that it difficult to figure out who to talk to or coalesce people around a topic. It would be useful if we could virtually write a topic in an area (broadcast to those nearby) and see who shows up to talk about it. Maybe I'll try that tomorrow. When things do go back to in-person, I hope the DOES programming committee continues to have virtual conferences or finds a way to blend the physical and virtual together.

Great idea — I found I could “broadcast” an idea (in my case it was a keyboard command for getting unstuck) by changing my username. That made the message visible to all. Bet you could do so with conversation topics. Example: “Wanna talk about _____?”

It has been reported in the Gather Bar that some vendors were able to make that happen

Nick Eggleston (free radical)20:05:21

That said, I do understand the feeling of missing the human interaction in person (even though it's not my strong suit)
