Good evening, night and morning from Indy (Indianapolis, Indiana, USA), Eastern US timezone. Super excited for the conference to start, even though it will be 5am! 😂
is anyone know if each session will be recorded and published into the video libs for re-play purpose along the event? 🙂
Videos should be available in the video library once the event starts.
Plenaries will also only be available after they air https://devopsenterprise.slack.com/archives/C021Z8J2FB3/p1620766056007200
And remember, the videos are only for a week (or two?) after the conference ends, unless you buy the upgrade. Is that right, @alex?
@nickeggleston two weeks with unlimited viewing, and then 10 views/month without the upgrade.
Hi from :flag-in: I’m Vaidik. I lead DevOps practice at http://grofers.com. This is my 2nd DOES and I am super excited. Here to learn and connect with this awesome community. The following topics interest me (among many others): • Platform engineering • Kubernetes • Cloud • CI/CD • Security & Risk Management • Engineering Management and Coaching • Goal setting Happy to chat with anyone interested in these things, and others 😄 Have a great conf. See you around!
Hello everyone - Good morning from Switzerland:flag-ch:
Good morning everyone and greetings from a cloudy Berlin :flag-de:! We're excited to be helping Gene, Jeff and the whole ITRevolution team with the technical delivery of the conference.
Hello - Good day from Bangalore, India :flag-in: Super excited to join as a speaker this time. Have to admit Virtual conference makes it easier to submit 😄 Our session Scaling Enterprise BizOps by Automating DevOps Practices is a collaboration @praz Ramesh, and me. My part is on overcoming cloud security, Data Security & visibility challenges in the cloud for the fast-growing team. I am planning to be on slack for all the days of the conference and later as well. Would love to trade stories and chat about cloud security and DevSecOps. 🙂
Another hi from Switzerland... Quick question... is the navigation on http://doesvirtual.com really not yet available, or am I doing something wrong?
I guess I interpreted the "will be updated early morning" somewhat overeagerly... 😄
impossible to be “overeager” for the Summit! :rolling_on_the_floor_laughing:
Hello everyone, whishing you all a great DOES experience with lot's of collaboration.
Hello everyone - I'm Praz, from India. Our session is about how we scaled Enterprise BizOps through automation - Specially covering the previous year of pandemic. The session is in collab with @akash676 who is our cloud security consultant and CEO of Kloudle and Ramesh, VP of BizDev in Byju's Excited to be part of this cohort 😄 A quick intro about me : I'm working in Byju's as Asst. Vice President of Tech. I take care of the Business Technology team in Byju's, where we work on providing inhouse tech solutions/automation to different business teams like Operations, sales, marketing. https://www.linkedin.com/in/praz-bn/ Would be happy to take questions on slack 🙂 Glad to connect with you all!
<!here> Welcome, everyone! The conference platform is now live! When you log in at http://doesvirtual.com/, you will see the welcome page and all the conference navigation.
Morning from Bristol! Overcast sadly, but looking forward to the conference
Mate - I did not know (although I could have guessed!) that you were Cardiff-based. Bore da indeed :-)
Good Morning from Germany (Central Franconia), happy to be here today and I am looking forward to some great talks. I'm Engineering Lead at Tradebyte - a Zalando subsidiary. Feel free to reach out in Slack or https://www.linkedin.com/in/tino-dietel-7565223/.
Hello, all! I’m so excited that DevOps Enterprise Summit Europe Virtual starts in about 90 minutes! I’ve now watched all the plenary sessions multiple times. The talks are just so superb, and I learned so so so much. I’m so excited to share what all the amazing speakers have created for you! See you shortly!
If something isn’t there that should be, let me know and we’ll get it added!
Reminder: To better enable serendipitous interactions, please change your Slack profile to include your org name and role: click Profile, and change your Display Name! 🙂 🎉
Good morning, everyone. I am Inderjit from Edinburgh. This is my first DevOps conference. Really excited for the sessions.
https://doeseurope2021.sched.com/?iframe=no should have everything right?
Good morning from Nike's European Logistic Campus :flag-be:
Hello everyone and good morning from Cambridge 🇬🇧, whishing you all a great DOES experience with lot's of collaboration!
My name is Patrick Debois and I have nothing to sell to you 🙂 Enjoy the event
It's a very good morning to everyone from me in sunny (for now!) Surrey in the UK. Looking forward to emerging on Thursday afternoon slightly older, wiser, and much more enthusiastic about driving change in IT orgs and businesses!
Good morning from the lovely Münster, Germany!
Good morning everyone from a sunny and gorgeous Cheltenham spring morning! 👋
Hi all, I'm in the Business Development Team at Copado for DevOps. So looking forward to this Event....!!
Morning everyone from :uk: looking forward to the next 3 jam packed days!
Very excited for the content, for the connections and the conversations. Incredibly proud of the Nationwide Building Society speakers for their courage and curiosity - thank you to @genek and the team so much ❤️
Good evening from Melbourne, Australia. Looking to connect with people on their own journeys to improve their people & working environments. Still learning after being "the transformation person" for 15 years.
Nice socks, @jonathansmart1!!! Here are my Unicorn Project socks, with +7 defense modifier vs network and authentication issues! Cc @mvk842

We may need to bring them out of retirement to celebrate being together again at our next in-person DOES!
That alone would be a good enough reason to participate and travel to London!
@jonathansmart1 - I like how you are wearing two Maxine socks and @genek101 is wearing two unicorns! 😂
@mvk842 that's what I got in 2018! Only now do I realise that there is a 2018 unicorn sock!
Good morning from surprisingly sunny the Netherlands! Looking forward to all the great sessions and to connecting with you lovely folk!
Good morning from the UK's premier tax authority. And more pertinently, from a small home office in Bristol. 👋
Reminder: Get yourself in front of your browser for the opening remarks. We’re kicking off Day 1 of the DevOps Enterprise Summit in 15 minutes! https://devopsenterprise.slack.com/files/UATE4LJ94/F01D34MC2KS/image.png
If you have the problem of video window Volume control disappearing when you hover over it, you can press Shift-Up Arrow — thank you, @alys!! cc @jeff.gallimore @alex @annp
Morning everyone! @genek @mvk842 @annp y'all brought the sun! We have seen none of it for weeks in the UK!
Hello Enterprise DevOps Community - Greetings from New Zealand
Meetings done, I’m totally ready for DOES21! Greetings to everyone. Hope everyone has a great conference. Greetings from :flag-be:
Good morning from sunny Sheffield, UK! Looking forward to some great talks over the next few days!
So now when anyone logs in, they won’t see the pre-conf welcome you posted 🙂
Look forward to great conversations about OSS and the challenges it comes with - what are you looking for during this event?
Good Morning from Cologne, Germany
T minus 4 minutes! So delighted to see y’all here! Condition Green from backstage! Reminder: To better enable serendipitous interactions, please change your Slack profile to include your org name and role: click Profile, and change your Display Name! 🙂 🎉

I am curious... just how do people find each other and stay in contact once the conference ends? It's super interactive for three days and then mostly tumbleweeds until the next conference. I realize this is most likely a lack of something on my part, but it's hard to know without asking.
perhaps there is scope for regular meetups via a "membership" program via gather.town ?
Can you send an email to me at <mailto:genek@itrevolution.com|genek@itrevolution.com>? Thank you in advance for volunteering to help @jeff.gallimore and me and the programming committee to keep engagement going between conferences!!! 🙂 🙂 I look forward to working with you!
Hi, the gather is really cool! well done! drinking my first beer of the day.
Good morning everyone! this is my first DevOps summit...I'm looking forward...Greetings from Geneva Switzerland! 🙂
Reminder: Hey, everybody! Let us know where you are while you’re attending the DevOps Enterprise Summit. Add your flags to this message.
Reminder: Day 1 is starting now – opening remarks and then plenary talks! Join the conversation in #ask-the-speaker-plenary.
Yes @genek! Colour code the hell out of that bookshelf
Good morning from Perú, this is my second Submit, Let's rock! 😄
This is what everyone should be seeing! 🙂 (And yes, @mvk842 color coded all the books on that bookshelf! 🙂 😆
I still have on https://doesvirtual.com/welcome "Welcome to DevOps Enterprise Summit! When the conference begins, navigation will be added to this page so that you can explore the full conference platform."
yeah refreshing never works, I had to go back to the original e-mail and hit the link again and it now took me elsewhere
Feel free to join our Synopsys Happy hour https://synopsys.zoom.us/webinar/register/WN_SJ9mpowbRF2gj6GQRRax2g
It already started
@genek The same here. Can't watch it yet. Refreshing the page https://doesvirtual.com/welcome but didn't see the live stream.
Yas! "Present with their business counterparts" - building bridges to reduce the HumanDebt:raised_hands:
<!here> If you’re not seeing conference navigation / WATCH page, please refresh or navigate to http://doesvirtual.com/watch
@alex Still getting an error "It looks like the webpage at https://does-player.gaiwan.co/index.html? might be having issues, or it may have moved permanently to a new web address."
could you send a screenshot @moira.cheng? where are you seeing that message?
What happens if you open https://does-player.gaiwan.co/index.html directly?
gosh - watching this event will feel like I'll be seeing many doctors :)
I just had the same thought while putting my schedule together!
Yes, @patrick.debois256 — we actually have a medical doctor presenting later today: Chris Strear, MD! (@cstrear)
That was a great presentation. I loved how the same ideas are application across domains. This is so no just an IT conference!
Seems like the whole scenius rides on that common language and context  I've seen that crop up in a few places, creating common context helps a lot...
One of the best concepts ever. So much good out of it
Yeah especially when linked to limiting WIP in a organisation/team so people naturally fall into the right context, helps reduce friction across the line 🙂 Absolute game changer
I love the idea of the scenius, but I find myself cringing inside when I say it. Probably some trauma in my childhood.
I know!!! I didn’t notice it until I started editing the video!! 😆
Do we have an idea for how to share photos from the next 3 days? 😄
You raise it you own it, eh? 😁 I’ll give it some thought.
Did you get a screenshot from the end of Vegas 2020 to add to those photos?
funny to see the chat here rather than #ask-the-speaker-plenary. A good example of how the audience makes the event. 😄

which is a good thing! that's how we end up with the bakers being able to talk about bread in #happy-hour ! 🍞 🥖
I think so! You’re talking about the epic end to the conference, where we had to finish in Zoom Webinar? 😆
That was SO cool, perfect example of total flexibility
Reminder: The DevOps Enterprise Summit has a Code of Conduct because we want everyone to have an amazing time here at the event. Here’s the summary: Listen well when someone else is sharing. Share well when you have something to say. Respect everyone at all times… and speak up if you see something or hear something that isn’t consistent with the environment we want for this community. If you have any issues, email <mailto:help@itrevolution.com|help@itrevolution.com> or direct message @jeff.gallimore. To see the entire Code of Conduct, you can read this post: https://devopsenterprise.slack.com/files/TASMB716H/FPW51DY5T
Good point, virtual and physical have different benefits. Would love to see a choice of both in future
@jtf I’m in #general, as I didn’t think this quite qualified as a talk! 😆 (I’m planning to migrate to #ask-the-speaker-plenary when @pieter.jordaan talks in about 15m! 🙂
I think you're selling yourself short @genek. The Senius insight is enough to qualify IMHO.
after listening to @mik podcast interview with @pieter.jordaan, I am really looking forward to this very first talk for sure
thoroughly enjoyed his session last year as well
Reminder: Please update your Slack profile to include more information about yourself. Name, image, organization, title, pronouns… whatever you feel comfortable sharing with this community to help us learn a little more about you. Here’s an example… https://devopsenterprise.slack.com/files/UATE4LJ94/F01C0C6VC6T/image.png
Your books need @mvk842 @jeff.gallimore
A short video where Brian Eno talks about Scenius: https://www.facebook.com/watch/?v=1192642650799133
It'd be cool to have a way to gather all the links and books together at the end of the day to keep track of all the good links shared through the day.
I'd love a bot that collects everything with the 🔖 emoji
Someone set up a Google Docs document we all can update. Now if I could just find the posting...
Also it seems every channel has the LogBot attached, will it gather and process such items? @mvk842
@nickeggleston We use the LogBot to archive Slack messages but let me see if @genek has some ideas!
What a great idea! Yes, it’s exactly as you guessed — the logbot pulls all the messages for our Slack Archive, which I’ll post later. It’d be great to be able to query to collect all messages to generate a report, like all books mentioned. Tagging @arne.brasseur @jeff.gallimore Personally, I love idea. I’m Saving so many messages to follow up on, and trying to figure out how to get them somewhere before they get deleted by Slack (free tier)
This is a cool idea, some fun things we can do here. Adding it to my list of ideas to take into the next event. Meanwhile you can already start tagging posts, e.g. if all book references get an 🔖 emoji reaction then we can pull those out later.
Creatign the same as last year probably is a good idea: https://www.goodreads.com/list/show/149789.Devops_Enterprise_Summit_2020_Book_leads
Let's try it: https://docs.google.com/document/d/17nHB3aDOsUI2f3W5EShyoFQiK7NMwIJ8QFkUCANVPbk/edit?usp=sharing
Way easiert to follow the conference if you are more or less in the same timezone 😄
I'm excited for seeing how Gather works — should allow for much more seamless and organic interactions than Zoom or MIT Unhangouts, closer to the interactions we have IRL!
It reminds me of my early days with Video Games. Mario / Contra is what comes to my memory always 🙂
nice to seeit being used 🙂 I remember proposing it after DOES Las vegas. I'm curious how it will work out
The BoF Tables in the room to the right, and the bar in the center are the best places I have found for serendipitous networking.

So, TUI did massive cuts of dozens solutions, replacing with one solution, whilst changing the org structure, skills, process and tech all at the same time. Sounds like a recipe for disaster, but apparently they were successful on this occasion. Would this be a good model for other orgs?
I think the point of the talk is that your perspective matters: We moved from a “recipe for disaster” to facing an actual disaster - COVID. This changed our perspective on risk, value, time to market and therefore our approach to transformation. Within the context of an existing COVID disaster our perspective changed, forced a different approach which we indeed might have seen as “recipe for disaster” in the past. I tried to highlight key points which other organisations can adopt. Making such a large scale change helps to break the inevitable dependencies between IT and Business consolidation but indeed require a organisational context that is ready for it. Not having the basics in place is a “recipe for disaster”
Good morning from New York! Excited about the great topics this year!
when will we get 1080p streams  Or is that just missing for me because of amazing German internet...
Seems like an issue all across. I’m watching from India and 720p is max i see which is not impressive
@jeff.gallimore is that something that's just limited from the platform side?
especially, deck contents are not clearly visible even with 720p which makes it difficult to read and correlate with speaker.
I believe 720p is the max. @philipp.boeschen650 @rchautel To take advantage of 1080p we’d need a live camera setup with each presenter. Otherwise we’re maxed out by webcams anyways.
@rchautel the slides are available here: https://github.com/devopsenterprise/2021-virtual-europe
Mhmm, it'd definitely help if the slides where sharp though, I'm starting to develop a bit of a headache from the slight blurry bits
I forced 720p on mine (instead of auto) and after 5 seconds it got WAY clearer.
Will try! Thanks that looks way better than on my side
Yeah the small print in the Adidas slides is pretty hard to read right now 😕
@philipp.boeschen650 here you go! https://github.com/devopsenterprise/2021-virtual-europe/blob/main/DOES21_VIRTUAL_adidas-4.pdf
Quick feedback: if we're not all muted in Gather during sessions we can't hang
@james.hunter Hi James, I was at Big Blue from '97-'11. Left to run IBM alliance @Red Hat. Yes, I started the acquisition. I can't make your GitLab session. Can I get your slides?
The scale of the platforms for Adidas and speed of creation for HMRC is inspiring for what can be achieved.

Hi - I am looking to speak about versioning for infrastructure provisioning. What are best strategies / branching / tagging / recording what was release / etc. If you are interested to speak about this, please ping me and we can find place in 'gather' 🙂
@marcin.praczko1 you might also consider joining the Architecture, Engineering, and Operations session during Birds of a Feather at 3:55pm London time.
I'd recommend using the same strategy used for products, APIs, etc. Don't do something special 🙂
I have experience that is not working the same way as products - this is why I am interested to speak with others. To learn how this can be done / good - bad examples.
🎉 There's still time to win! Make sure to pick your favorite sponsor sticker in #games and complete the sticker seeker game (instructions on our https://doesvirtual.com/games) by 4:45 pm to be entered in today's drawing. You don't want to miss out on our amazing prize lineup! 🎉

Ah well, I've used the time to watch the talks I missed at lunchtime. I just don't understand this timing, when the conference is targeted at Europe.
I'm with you here... Would go so far and ask why the conference doesn't start earlier than 10am...
folks your vendordome - we can hear the setup discussion as well as background music
Odd, sound leaking through to all tracks
Ah, it appears audio issues were fixed — thank you @annp and @erin!

oooh are we kicking off another Weetabix viral thread here :rolling_on_the_floor_laughing: Let’s do it
@genek and others. I'm interested in hearing how you define DevOps.
Donvan Brown says "DevOps is the union of people, process, and products to enable continuous delivery of value to our end users." and I think that is pretty good https://www.donovanbrown.com/post/what-is-devops
The best definition I’ve heard is the one coined by @jonathansmart1 that identifies the outcomes you want/get: Better. Value. Sooner. Safer. Happier. BVSSH
I like Emily Freeman's definition: "DevOps is an engineering culture of collaboration, ownership and learning with the purpose of accelerating the software development lifecycle from ideation to production." (more: https://emilyfreeman.io/)
I love @jonathansmart1’s definition — can’t imagine a better way to characterize a better way of working!
PS: I’m still a blown away that we were able to push a client change about 25m ago to everyone’s browser to reflect the schedule change. Nice job, @arne.brasseur!
it takes a LOT of work to make deployments fast and boring. 🙌
true words! we have a pretty high degree of confidence in the conference platform at this point.
Hello, we are implementing DevOps in a company and we are refining the way we measure our mature. Do you have any way to measure mature, or any reference such us Puppet Report o DORA?, in order to have a same measure of mature?
@mmartinezespichan my opinion: you’re on the right track with DORA and reading the Accelerate book. There’s also discussion in there around maturity models (no) versus capability models (yes). and also my opinion, if you’re moving the Big Four metrics in the right direction (deployment frequency, lead time for changes, MTTR, and change fail rate), you’re doing the right things.
one more point: be cautious about using a “one-size-fits-all” approach with the teams. that isn’t usually best because each team is different and context is important. allow (some) freedom and autonomy to chart their own course.
my colleague @rchautel found a maturity model developed by adidas that he's been using to measure maturity for his teams. Adidas is also here at the conference so maybe they can provide some more advice
@mmartinezespichan - As mentioned by Adrienne, i found Adidas maturity model as a good thing to start with. Here’s more details for your reference. https://github.com/adidas/adidas-devops-maturity-framework
pinging adidas team @fernando.cornago442 @dmitry.luchnik @andreia.otto are your ears ringing? we're talking about you. see ☝️
Goood:call_me_hand::skin-tone-2:🤙:skin-tone-2: thanks for sharing 👍:skin-tone-2:👍:skin-tone-2:
I like it because it's multi dimensional across tooling, processes, people, culture. Devops maturity is not a single straight path, and the crawl/walk/run emphasizes the journey not the destination
I would second Jeff - staring with 4 KPIs from Accelerate is a right thing to do. They are very self-explainable and measurable (fact based). You can implement something like the chart I was showing with 1-2 sprints. CALMS gives more metrics and also shows what directions the teams might look into (what questions to ask)
I agree with Jeff 100%, and would strongly advise against maturity models. Particularly if a) they're not homegrown and b) teams aren't empowered to evolve such models themselves. My sense from the (excellent) Adidas talk yesterday was a) and b) are not problems
Where can I find the Sooner Safer Happier eBook? I seem to always just land on a zoom meeting which starts tomorrow?
Hi @sascha.schaerich You can find the download here: https://myresources.itrevolution.com/redeem/LDDOES
Thank you very much, that worked!

Having so much fun in Gather, catching up with old friends @levi.geinert500 @jeff.gallimore — I love you can cruise around, looking for people you’ve been wanting to talk to for months!
Heading to #ask-the-speaker-plenary for the American Airlines talk! 🙂
I think we all know that culture eats strategy for breakfast (@ross.clanton508's most notable quote so far in his part of AA's talk, DevOps: Approaching Cruising Altitude)
The thing usually still missed is what culture actually is, how it works and how you steer it!
Indeed. Not a lot of fluency in the details of culture out there...
We're getting ready to start our *https://go.snyk.io/DOES21-Happy-Hour.html *tonight with @eric.smalling, who's joining us? 🍻
I can’t seem to find the presentation for Maya and Ross in the Dropbox - can anyone help me find it?
It’s here in the video library: https://videolibrary.doesvirtual.com/?video=550704282
Reminder: Please submit your feedback for the talks you attended. It’s so valuable for us and the speakers. And after all, feedback is a gift and sharing is caring! https://devopsenterprise.slack.com/files/UATE4LJ94/F022J9RP80Z/feedback-does21eur.jpg
Reminder: Just because we’re not together in person doesn’t mean we can’t have a happy hour! We’ll have hosted sessions, a general session, and some IT Revolution authors doing an Ask Me Anything session. You can even pick up some books (virtually, of course). Check out #happy-hour for more info. https://devopsenterprise.slack.com/files/UATE4LJ94/F01C6H8CSSJ/happyhour.png
Yep. We’re running a few minutes behind. Not to worry. We’ll make sure everything wraps up in time for happy hour.
Reminder: Videos of plenary talks are available after they air so all the plenary talks for today are available now. Videos of all breakout talks over all three days are also available now. View them at https://videolibrary.doesvirtual.com/. The slides are available for download, too! Dropbox: http://itrevolution.com/DOES21-db GitHub: http://itrevolution.com/DOES21-git
@eileencodes Did GitHub have any unmaintained code that were dependent on your custom Rails fork? Curious how you dealt with that?
We either upstreamed it, deleted it, or replaced it depending on what it was. For example we had our own job queue and after upgrading replaced it with Active Job. There may have been other things that were upstreamed before I started working there too
What was your highlight of the day? 😃 I loved our Lean Coffee session on Ways of Working - lots of great stories and shared ideas
I haven't watched all the sessions I want to yet, but for anyone who's followed the Adidas Journey watching their growth, progress, and goals for what's next is amazing. You can see them pulling away from earlier years and just launching into the future now
Now I have FOMO for that Lean Coffee session... any good notes you can share?
:] There are shots of the lean coffee canvasses in #lean-coffee, with a few epiphanies we noted
One big one for us was the value of treating everything (including enabling teams and platforms) as a product with a clear customer and flow of work
We have c30 colleagues attending this year from Nationwide Building Society. The conversations (that carried on well into the evening and our ongoing now!) on our in-house DOES21 Teams channel show just how much all the content is valued from the group. I would highlight, again, that the quality, positivity, openness and vulnerability across the set of talks I've been able to squeeze into my day, lunch and evening have all (as ever!) blown me away ❤️
@richard.james you and your team are sterling examples of "you get out what you put in"! Thanks for being such excellent contributors to this community!
🍻 We’re so excited to be here with @me1208 and @matthew at our Happy Hour for an AMA on their book Team Topologies! We’re on Zoom with them NOW so you don’t want to miss it! https://split.zoom.us/j/85792391958?pwd=eFBoQzNXZExrYVI0Q3g0U1Q2QTJtdz09 to join the party ✨
⭐ It's a big kick off tonight for all sorts of happy hours and an Ask Me Anything for Team Topologies. ‼️ ⭐Magic, big prizes, trivia & special guests abound! "don't be a donut, be a croissant" -- @jeff.gallimore wow, are other tech communities this inclusive? I dont think so. I'm giving a talk tomorrow about the surprising synergies we discovered (at my org Cornerstone) between Diversity & Inclusion and Devops...It devolves into a love letter to our industry. hope to see some of you there
@ashulman i have never found a community quite like this anywhere in my career. it’s just so… human. and amazing. i couldn’t imagine it not existing or not being a part of it.
Leaving the possibility open, there may be a more advanced and welcoming community. This tends to be very inclusive.
I feel the same, and it seems like many others do to. I'm just kicking myself for not discovering it sooner.
What are you gaining by the kicks? People take their time with ideas, even their own idead. That includes you and me. So, self-compassion is important.
@jeff.gallimore There are other communities that optimize safety/humanity. But to find one that optimizes for better value AND better humanity? It's like living in a dream
@ferrix agreed, you are right! celebrate the journey and progress, not the destination
@ashulman so much yes to the “and”! and the amazing thing about that is that this community also realizes you can get both together… and in fact need to pursue both to win. no tradeoffs here!
I love how consciously and deliberately inclusive and psychologically aware this conference is and how the team is always striving for improvement.

I had another thought about this... currently the metaphor is expressed in terms of space... leave a gap where someone new can join... but I think it applies as well in time... leave a space (some silence) so that new people can be heard... and whomever seems to have the spotlight can ask those who have been quiet if they have questions from time to time (@jonathansmart1 is very good at this).
With the delays inherent in these meeting platforms, there's often collisions at the end of one person's utterances as those who want to reply talk at the same time.... CSMA-CD indeed... i love networking.
@bryan.finster486 did a good job of this as a facilitator for lean coffee earlier today, I was running my loud mouth (i can be a DEI advocate and still make mistakes) and he was really intentional and good about making sure everyone participated.
What a packed day... unwinding with a 🍺 and catching up on all the great talks that I didn't get to see today. I guess you people are not downstairs in the hotel bar?
There is a "bar" in Gather Town, and it's open all night. We should try and get some attention so people some hang out and talk after the official items are done for the day.
I was just sent this by one of the developers my team at Walmart mentored. so i was able to apply dev ops principles to dishes. So far in 2021 the dishes haven’t piled up once 💪 the trick was to run the dishwasher as a predefined interval (for me thats daily) no matter how many dishes there were. Before doing it like this i would wait to do this dishes until we had a full load of dishes but now i run it every night no matter what and normally that means its only like a third full. Youd think whats the difference between doing 1/3 loads every day vs 1 full load every 3 days - its got to be the same right? This is where devops comes in. frequent small deploys to the dishwasher actually makes it easier to keep up with the dishes overall. You dont have to take time playing tetris with the dishes when you arent filling it up all the way, dishes dont have as much time to get stuff stuck to them, the emotional burden of loading/emptying is way lower when there are less dishes to work with, and it quickly becomes a habit.
After reading this, I've spent a fair amount of my evening cleaning my apartment. 🙂
Fun fact: unlike Tetris, the dishes do not disappear when you fill a row.
Thanks everyone that already participated. 🙂 Looking forward to discussing this fascinating subject with others!
