Good morning fellow "Summiteers" π Day 3...my normal routine for day 3 would have started with a run/jog along the strip in Vegas (or down the Embarcadero when we were in SF) where I could let my mind explore many of the things that I had learned over the last 2 days. I would also be feeling a bit of anxiety about this being the last day of DOES and making a mental list of individuals that I still want to catch up with before we depart. Well, while I didn't get my run in this morning, the coffee was still hot and that familiar anxious feeling is still present, indicating that all the value is still here albeit virtual. I've learned a lot over the past two days, seen some cool things, chatted with some of you and I am looking forward to all the sessions and conversations today. π

This is my first. We were very excited to have attended this event in Vegas in person. Particular hesitant to when it went virtual. I am glad we took the leap and attended it. The slack channels make it feel very cozy, familiar even. I have been able to connect with quite a few folks offline where if this were in person, it would happen likely after if at all. I even arranged an "Among Us" game or two and was able to connect with those who love stickers and didn't mind me sending them some random ones. The breakout session was awesome and great to connect "face to face" . I even got to a magician show and to chat with the Gene Kim! I wish there were more of me to attend all the different happy hours. Probably my only feedback is to have less happy hours groups because the fear of missing them was overwhelming. Either way, if this were in person or virtual, I am sure https://www.rhythmictech.com/ will be back!
100%, on the number of Happy Hours! The response to HHs for London Virtual was so fantastic, we went into DOES LV βHappy Hours! ALL the Happy Hours!β π The FOMO was real because our sponsors really brought their A game. Weβll for sure be adjusting this for our next conference. Thank you for the feedback!

silly fact - the UK gauge was determined from the roads system. The roads system was originally built by the Romas some 2000 years ago. The width of the road was built to enable roman chariots to pass by each other. The railroad gauge of 4'8" goes back to the width of a roman chariot :-)

Kudos to all of the speakers, organizers and behind the scenes staff making this conference a success!

Just noticed the Attendee cross-reference. Very sweet analytic to allow people to look at name / contact / tagged / watched and see which tracks they tagged. Going to be challenged to try and get to all tracks that I couldnβt cover live. Would be willing to pay for a longer access window. 2020-10-23 is going to press me (unless Iβm reading that wrong). Lastly, Iβm very interested in signing up for next yearβs notification.

My daughter had school recess around the start of the conference today. I talked her into "go to work with your dad day". Unfortunately she didn't make it through to the end of her recess and swapped to her iPod pretty quickly. I guess 8 might be a little too young to get them started?
Joined the Unicorn Project online Book Club last year and loved the community Shared my dashboard in the discussion channel. @genek101 asked my to submit to the CFP π . I felt so proud. I started to (re)watch more and more DOES videos, I watched and I read everything I could find about DOES. On January 8th @genek101 posted this article: https://itrevolution.com/getting-your-devops-enterprise-summit-presentation-submission-accepted-2020-edition/ : It quotes @jonathansmart1: "When in doubt, submit." I had presented at some events before, but i knew I would have to get some support from the higher ups. I talked to my boss and he said: let's submit and see what happens. So I wrote my submission, and fine tuned it for days. you can read parts of it in https://sched.co/eA6I (sorry to @jessicam that i didn't find the time to write a shorter more snappy version for the schedule and thanks for shortening it). I got accepted, but I would have to bring someone from "the business" along, which I translated to: someone way higher up the hierarchy. I sent a message to the boss of my boss of my boss of my boss and asked him for a 15 minute meeting. I asked him: You started this transformation, what about sharing with the community at the biggest conference? He answered: Yeah good idea, but you know it might be very hard to get in to those events... I answered: What if ... we are already accepted? π He said: Oh nice. @manja.lohse is the perfect fit to join you. So here I am and I love it. The timezone thing is challenging though. Thanks to @genek101 and the committee to encourage me and give us the opportunity to share. Great event so far, and great opportunity for learning, especially for us tech journos who tend to know a bit about a lot of things but never really get a chance to deep dive. Looking forward to watching more sessions on the weekend and writing up some articles. Really looking forward to reading all the books too, really generous of the authors and publishers!
This would be my third year attending. Iβve enjoyed how the conference continues to bring not just great talent, but people of influence within their organizations. It tells me that our community continues to grow, not just with engineers and practitioners, but with leaders among the giants of industry. The stories this year, felt very raw, and transparent. People sharing not just stories of success and magical pipelines, but stories of tragedy and hardship. DevOps, agility, software and technology continue to have impacts unlike anything I may have imagined.
This is my first DevOps summit event. These have been among the best 3 days of the year! See, 2020 isn't all that bad! Overwhelming amount of goodness! I feel like I have stepped into an all-you-can-eat buffet for 3 days (anyone remember those from the pre-pandemic eras? π ). Thankfully, unlike buffets, I can take home all the good stuff! I need a few days to digest all these learnings from this event. Been a big fan of the IT Revolution group for a while now, and I'm so glad to have finally joined this conference! Personal takeaways: Read all these amazing books. Thank you! Pitch in some of these ideas to my executive leadership. Get myself at the seat of the table (to quote Mark Schwartz); I have a few VSM ideas that I'm looking to incorporate in the next month at a workshop. Plenty of other ideas when it comes to Lean, Agile and DevOps. Find and grow my tribe, etc. within and outside my organization. 2021 sounds promising! Some of you have inspired me to blog as well, which I'm looking to get back to on. Hoping to connect with you and come back with some success stories to share next year!
This is my first DOES. I will definitely attend more. But probably not in the PDT π . I love the motto "By horses, for horses". This is exactly what I was needing. Stories, personas and challenges that I could relate to. Thanks to all the IT Revolution team!
How about some Nordic country? Helsinki/Oslo/Stockholm. Scandinavian countries are now the places where a lot of innovations take place. And not only technical innovations but the cultural ones. Which is even more important!
This is my 4th year attending. I'm missing being there in person but the engagement via slack, lean coffees, and happy hours is really fantastic! (Vegas has better πΉ bartenders though). And I miss the π§¦!! Where is my swag bag full of socks??? Here's a small story I want to share about how this event and this community keeps me going all year. Last year I was so psyched when @genek101 posted the :unicorn_face: socks on twitter! I got those socks and I love them so much!!! A couple weeks ago I was getting dressed to head out to sit for my GIAC GWAPT (SANS Web Application Penetration Testing) exam and had to make the very important choice of which socks to wear (this is a real thing in my life). I went with my Unicorn Project Maxine socks, hoping maybe I could channel her strength and talent to help me through the exam. I'm happy to report she got me through it! π:unicorn_face:β€οΈ. Haha! You can thank @mvk842 for those socks!!! I go through a very similar process before these conferences, carefully choosing which socks to wear, based my guess on what their D&D stats might be. Today I went with Maxine socks of +5 saving throws (+7 for network problems). π cc @patrick.debois256

This was my 1st DOES and I have to say I'm in awe how amazing all the talks were, how engaging the Birds of a Feather were, and although it was an online event, I was still able to make connections with attendees. This is my first DOES conference and my first virtual multi-day conference. It is to soon to know the full impact of having been here, but I know it will not be small. So much information, so much confirmation and so much community. Thank you all for hosting and attending!
Today we met @cwookie643 who said she was tired of the problems no one was fixing and sent and email to her COO, who she's never spoken to, and volunteered to lead the charge. That's amazing. She's just starting and will need mentors. I've so much admiration for that.
Agreed, @cwookie643 is amazing and admirable...she is the voice of change and the leadership that is needed.
thx @bryan.finster it's also relative for me, our company is 100-150 people send me good thoughts on Monday that I keep my cool and have the words and tone that can influence. I have tried to reach out to other leaders in the past but it didn't take. It's a journey.
